Sports Funding

The government is determined to secure a significant and lasting legacy from the very successful 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games that were held in London. In order to achieve this and improve the provision of PE and sport in primary schools, additional funding of £150 million per annum has been made available since 2013.

This year, we have received £22,719.00

At Riverside we believe that sport plays a crucial role in contributing to the health and wellbeing of our children. We have used the sports funding to enable us to continue to employ a specialist PE sports coach to teach PE alongside our teachers and to run after school sports clubs.

Some of the funding has also been used across the school for:

  • Dance workshops run by Dance Fest linked with Learning Challenge themes in Years 4 and 5
  • Additional equipment and storage for equipment
  • Membership costs to enter competitions and tournaments
  • Gymnastics Enterprise Training
  • Medals for pupils participating in sporting tournaments
  • Attendance at County level basketball fixtures

The funding has enabled Riverside to develop staff skills in PE and Sports to provide different activities both in school and outside of school hours, such as keep fit classes, circuit training, girls' and boys' football etc.

Far more children are now able to take part in sporting activities in the wider community both for fun and at competition level in a range of sports.  Through this funding pupils are inspired to attend fixtures at regional levels as spectators i.e. Worcester Wolves basketball games.
